Somos PAC Celebrates Primary Victories for Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Governor Steve Sisolak and Lieutenant Governor Lisa Cano Burkhead

Somos PAC Will Invest Millions to Elect Majority-Latino Ticket and Defeat Adam Laxalt

Las Vegas, NV – Today, Somos PAC, a Latino-led organization focused on persuading and mobilizing Latino voters, released the following statement on the results of the Nevada primary:

“Hard working Latino voters are looking for leaders who will respect us and bring more economic opportunities to our community, not less,” said Cecia Alvarado, Nevada Executive Director for Somos PAC. “While Adam Laxalt and Joe Lombardo have spent the last few months fighting with their own party, Democrats have remained laser focused on November with both Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and Governor Steve Sisolak’s primary results showing a strong and unified Democratic base. Somos PAC will redouble our efforts to ensure every Latino in Nevada hears about their accomplishments and knows where Republicans stand on the issues that matter.”

Somos PAC, and our sister organization, Somos Votantes, has been using every single communication and organizing tactic to reach Latino voters in Nevada early and consistently.

“Nevada is a critical battleground state and reelecting Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is Somos PAC’s top electoral priority this year, '' said Melissa Morales, founder and president of Somos PAC. “We know that engaging our Latino community early and often is critical – not only in making sure that they have the information they need to vote, but that they feel empowered as a community to do so. The power, influence and importance of the Latino community is a key dynamic in our country – and in Nevada – that will only continue to grow.”

In May, Somos PAC announced a $4 million campaign to hold Adam Laxalt accountable for his record of prioritizing greedy corporations and industries over working people in Nevada. The campaign includes statewide TV and digital ads as well as community organizing and canvassing to reach voters and members of the Latino community, all to re-elect Senator Catherine Cortez Masto to a second term.

The ads, filmed from the perspective of Nevadans, highlight the negative effects of Adam Laxalt’s current and past actions concerning the Affordable Care Act and the Latino community. They will resume airing on Thursday, June 16, 2022.

During that same month, Somos PAC launched a $350,000 campaign to support Governor Steve Sisolak and Lieutenant Governor Lisa Cano Burkhead. The campaign includes mail and digital in both English and Spanish to educate Latino voters about the work Sisolak and Cano Burkhead have done on issues including education and immigration.

Somos PAC launched in 2019 and in 2020 quickly became one of the largest independent Latino voter programs in the country, spending $33 million across nine battleground states.

Interviews can be given in both English and Spanish, as requested.
